I spent all day in my shop yesterday rearranging stuff. I got my new (used) table saw in place, and moved a few other things around. I think one more solid day and I will have things the way I want.

Great idea Lance. iPhone users of the world unite. I just spent a couple of hours rearranging my shop and integrating a few pieces of a discarded piano that my wife took piano lessons on when she was a young girl...now a great tool shelf, etc.

Looks great Doug! Lots of space there!
I used my 2 car garage for about year until my wife told me to get out so she could park her car in it :-)
I was sent to the basement to build my shop..

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

Hey Doug,
I used to live in Calgary. Humidity is not much of a problem in Calgary but after the Chinooks move out the garage can get pretty chilly. How do you keep your garage warm during the winter? I know a lot of the newer homes had gas heaters installed in the garages. Did you insulate yours?

Rick,
I actually like the Calgary climate for building guitars as I find it easier to humidify rather than de-humidify. I have an overhead, radiant heater in my insulated garage. I think another thing I need is to better seal the concrete floor as I seem to lose a lot of humidity control through the concrete in both directions. I find the months of June and July the most challenging to keep the humidity down.
